FSRI, FDNY Release Training Video from 2022 Firefighter LODD

FDNY and UL's Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI) teamed up to honor firefighter Timothy Klein, who died in an April 2022 house fire when he became trapped in the flowpath of a wind-driven fire.

Klein tragically lost his life in a fire in Brooklyn, NY, when he was trapped on the second floor, caught in the exhaust portion of a wind-impacted basement fire’s flow path.

In a commitment to share the lessons learned from Klein tragic death, FDNY partnered with FSRI’s fire research engineers and investigate the incident. 

Following the research, including fire modeling, they issued four recommendations:

1. Conduct a thorough 360 size-up
2. Control flow paths and ventilation
3. Fight the fire on the same level
4. Fight the fire with the wind at your back
